Dear Reader,

“Be careful what you wish for” is sage advice, and I wish I took it more often.

As Mrs. Parvin tells me, it’s all too easy to overthink things and tie yourself in knots.

My painters always value my words of wisdom and treasure my thoughts. I hate to be put on a pedestal but when I hear them muttering “Who does he think he is? Chairman Mao?” I can’t avoid a glow of pride at the comparison with such a renowned world leader. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t it Chairman Mao who  not only invented penicillin but also painted the famous Mona Lisa?

They’ve also started calling me Kim Jon Geoff since my once-trim figure had an unfortunate meeting with one too many Christmas dinners.

But here’s my point (since you ask). We have wonderful paint technology at our fingertips in every shade you can think of (even the new shade of blue that was just discovered – we can do that for a modest increase in fee). But it’s only ever going to look as good as it’s put on right.

That’s why I tell the painters as they sip their morning coffee: “We’re going to make the world beautiful – one wall at a time”.

“Three Cheers for Our Great Leader, they shout. We want a raise.”
