Putting back the Autumn leaves

I should explain today’s photo.

At our recent Parvin Painters Autumn Conference my decorators spent a tearful afternoon watching seasonal golden leaves being blown off the trees by Storm Benjamin.

“Your Excellency” they said to me “Our one desire is to bring colour to the lives of poor Londoners who are surrounded by grey streets, grey cars, grey skies and grey suits. We beg you to give us your wise guidance”.

I don’t generally encourage such familiarity, but I couldn’t refuse.

“Your public-spiritidness does you credit”, I told them. “Here is tuppence, an advance on your wages. Buy a dead horse to turn into some glue, and you may use your weekly half-hour off to put those beautiful golden leaves back where they belong”.

Their gratitude was really quite touching, and they have all signed the original of the photograph above.

“Hurrah for the Great Geoffrey, May His Name Be Forever Remembered”, they are still chanting. “Where’s our money?”`

If you too seek inspiration and comfort from the relentless onset of colder and darker months, these very same workmen are available for hire, to paint your home in WHATEVER COMBINATION OF COLOURS you desire.
